  • Fennboree 5k Treasure Run

This is for all the athletes out there. Someone should sanction a Fennboree 5K Treasure run. Each participant must carry a back pack with 42lbs of weight in it. The race would be run on the Hyde Memorial East and West Trail which is about 3.2 miles. Finish line of course would be 3.1 miles. This would be a test of endurance due to altitude and trail elevation changes. It could be the start to something really cool.

I've done a Mountain Man Memorial March in Gaitlinburg, TN and last place of the full marathon with 35lb pack wins a beautiful carved walking staff.

Here in Berlin we have a race around a lake (appr. 3 Miles) where a pair of runners has to carry a box of 24 Beerbottles à 0.33 Liter. The two runners can decide wether they drink those 8 Liter (a bit more than 2 gallons) early and carry a low weight quite dizzy or wether they drink it late, have to carry the full weight but stay clean or something in the middle... at the arrival the box has to be empty....

        Could be fun as well....

Yeah, alcohol and cliffs might not be a good idea. The goal is to let people experience the challenge of carrying a box up and down a mountain, not falling off the mountain.

the closer you stay to the mountain's side the less likely you are to fall.

The treasure weighs 36.5 lbs. Why use a 42 lb pack ?

Forrest has always said the chest weighs somewhere between 42-44lbs.

Troy pounds don't weigh the same as imperial pounds (aka international pounds or avoirdupois pounds). As such, a pound of gold weighs less than a pound of feathers. Now, the weight of the treasure chest alone should be expressed in imperial pounds, so there's a bit of mix and matching going on when you combine the gold with the chest. Forrest has said the chest weighs 22 lbs., and the gold weighs 20.2 troy pounds = 16.62 imperial pounds. The two combined then weigh 38.6 pounds. But there is more than gold in the chest: the jar with his autobiography, the dragon coat bracelet (though it contains gold, so is it included in the gold tally?), the silver row bracelet, the Tairona and Sinu Indian necklace, the Chinese jade carvings, etc. If all of the non-gold collectively weighs 3.4 lbs., then that would bring the total to 42 lbs.

well I believe when the treasure is retrieved, it should and will be put to good use, hopefully to help others.
