  • Chest on my lap

Anyone remember a Fenn quote where he said something like there being “enough room to sit with the chest on my lap” at the hiding place. Found nothing at Tarry Scant.

Yes, he said sit upright with the chest in my lap

Thanks. Do you recall where you saw that?

I remember that but I think I just dreamed it up.

Seems like it was an early interview he did.

"Two of the nuggets weigh more than a troy pound each and are larger than a hen's egg, but there are hundreds of gold nuggets in there and some of the coins have numismatic value. It's just wonderful. If you find that treasure chest and put it on your lap and open that lid it'll be a culture shock for you."

Also, in On the Road with Charlie: "Yeah, somebody's gonna find it. I'm confident of that and I've said before that the person that find that thing, puts it on his lap, and lift the lid, they're either gonna break out in laughter, or they're gonna faint, or something, but it's such a sight."

The oldest instance of Forrest mentioning putting the chest on your lap is the KOAT interview in September 2013.

I went to the Doctor and he told me I have "furniture disease". I told him I had never heard of that before and asked if it was serious. He replied: "That's a disease; when your chest has fallen into your drawers." (I need to find a new Doctor....)

I don't think he ever said there is only enough room to sit with a chest on your lap. I've found misquotes saying that, but no direct quotes. I looked a lot three or four months ago and came up with nothing other than, "The person that finds that treasure chest and puts it on his lap and opens the lid is going to faint or start laughing. One of the two" or variations of that
