What do you reckon FF was doing with more than 900 topo maps? 900 freaking maps. Just mind boggling.

Yes indeed, and he was always on the lookout for obscure locations where marketable Native American artifacts might be uncovered. These maps may be all about his business. That is a very intriguing aspect of this collection. We should ask him. I'll send a question to Jenny Kile at MW.

Forrest, was the main purpose of your map collection basically a tool to help locate Native American artifacts in New Mexico?

In mining, when I am working/researching an area, We at times order dozens of maps surrounding the area of interest. 7.5 maps (1:24k scale) cover a very small area but offer some of the best detail.

As examples, it takes just over 1,500 of these maps to cover all of Utah. The numbers add up quick when working on such a small scale. Treasure Joe and Wanderinglost have also pointed out that for New Mexico it takes over 1,900 of these maps to cover the entire state.

There is also a possibility he bought out a supply of maps from another individual or business, many of which he may not of needed but got for a bargain price. IMO

              Hey Cow!

Your Ebay Auction for Ojo is misleading and will probably be taken down by eBay if you don't make a change... You state that a Certificate of Authenticity is included in the action for the map... What you are selling is a copy of a certificate of authenticity for the original action where these maps were purchased... Unless you are providing a separate Cert... this is a critical error in the posting!

              Just trying to help!

Surely there's a way to split a certified collection into certified parts. Is it just an administrative thing?

                  This is what it states:
"1 Certificate of Authenticity declaring this map was in Forrest Fenn's personal collection."

I am under the impression that this is not true! It is a copy relating to another auction!

As long as no one objects it will fly... I'm not interested so it doesn't matter to me! I won't report it. Maybe all Cow has to do is write on the Cert copy that it was included in that auction, Identify it and sign it!

I watched his Youtube and he clearly states that it is copy in his Vlog...

The map is not a copy, it is an original.
                    The certificate is a copy.
Nothing was stated about the certificate coming from previous or original auction.

Though we may be often and for long periods on solid ground, we never are quite out of site of the half-effaced shorelines of speculation. knowledge extends in promontories and bays; or to put it vertically rather then horizontally, the strata from remote to recent never lie so unbroken that we cannot find some line of unconformity where the imagination must make a leap.

There are so many horizons, geological and human, where the evidence is missing or incomplete.

                            Wallace Stegner

                            Sounds like the chase?

It is history based upon a mans imagination to organize the geological survey.

                            John Wesley Powell

Thanks again Forrest for all the knowledge you have driven one man to imagine.

So many treasures, so little time.

So, being new here, am I to gather you are selling maps that were in Forrest's collection? And these are what he has parted with?
