  • Tempers Flaring

It is surely understandable that the more time passes without resolution to that which so many of us poured our time, minds and hearts into, those same people become restless and irritable. More and more I see searchers becoming less circumspect in their posts. I am no exception. We are quick to declare the ideas of others wrong or stupid, or even more often, declare our ideas as the only possible conclusions that could be reached. Those are neither kind nor wise positions. If this puzzle has demonstrated anything, it's the ability it has to be interpreted in an almost countless number of ways.

For those who feel they have THE solution, I suggest you create a thread here and post it - once. Given how strongly searchers feel about their own ideas, it is unlikely that you will garner a lot of support for those ideas, but at least it will be out there for all to see, and we won't keep rehashing the same debates over and over and over ....

And for those who simply want to express an idea on a particular concept, the rest of us might try some restraint in our responses. The fact that those ideas don't match up with our own does not necessarily disqualify them. No one really knows how well the author succeeded in presenting a challenging yet fair puzzle. No one really knows what to make of his various statements, especially when contradictions are evident. Was he dishonest, forgetful or sly?

The forum is here for a free exchange of ideas, not didactic presentations or abusive commentary. I'll try to be better; hope the rest of you will as well. And now I'll get off my soapbox.

Not once did you use the word 'poem'? Its possible I may have skipped right over it but in hindsight, with all the commotion, highly doubtful.

You are correct, I did not.

The true answer can only be found inside Forrest's head.

Forrest did put some of his hairs in the olive jar.
Or were those hares? OMG! More rabbit holes...

The more I think about it, it just keeps getting more interesting.

If you are not here to try to solve the poem, as you feel this is not over and continue to solve, or to get the solve then why are you here? The soap opera nonsense purposefully propagated by Kpro and a few others (all of which provide zero value to the solve) gets old and it has been nearly 3 years so I would honestly like to know why are you are here if it is not for the solve?

At this point, I wonder to how many of y'all the solve is more important than the gold....
It is now definitely, the "thrill" of the chase that is valued.

                Hey Spoon,
Your comment reminds me of something....

That is why locality is the thing that should be focused on. The demonstration your refer to is searcher's ability to focus on everything else...besides locality. Forrest said, "If you don't know where the first clue is, you might as well stay home because you're not . . . you're not going to find the treasure chest."

The debate should be on locality...you know "where the first clue is." If you can't substantiate your claim....then the "searchers feel about their own ideas," is their own thing.....for them to work out...

The only idea or ideas that matters is making a claim for a locality and showing the findings that prove it......and defending it under the scrutiny of the community. You are not the judge of what qualifies as an idea, because you have no location that you can defend....nor a claim or findings either.

Know this: If you show a locality that makes sense, then all of the "various statements" contradictions....will be explained by that location. You cannot do this because you have put the cart in front of the horse. Focus on what Forrest said, "If you don't know where the first clue is, you might as well stay home because you're not . . . you're not going to find the treasure chest." That is the only thing that is up for debate and scrutiny. Then those other things fill in....try putting the horse in front of the cart.

Isn't "didactics" based on the free flow of exchanges of ideas? Contradiction? There is a group didactic going on here. Your sentence is very didactic....the very definition of what you saying this forum......is not. You even wrote "soap box." Geeze.....That's like standing up at the podium and saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, I come before you today to stand behind you....to tell you about something, I actually know nothing about." hahahaha.

If your solve makes a claim to a location and your findings do not substantiate the claim, then you need to educate yourself about how you can do that. What is abusive is you coming in here Spoon and trying to be didactic under the guise of kumbaya. Tell us dear Spoon....the answer to the question of, "Who is Brown?" You can't answer that.....then you have no "where." You know....you can't fulfill what Forrest said: "If you don't know where the first clue is, you might as well stay home because you're not . . . you're not going to find the treasure chest." Just what exactly do you hope to accomplish with this comment? Just post your ideas once? Stop repeating yourself? What needs repeating....and what you are resenting is not having a LOCALITY along with a fully developed claim and findings....That is what Forrest means when he says, ""If you don't know where the first clue is, you might as well stay home because you're not . . . you're not going to find the treasure chest."

IMO....your comment is an afront...and it is abusive...to what Forrest said to focus on. And regarding your trying to "run the offense" within the minds of others....I dare say that it is borne out of a resentment of not understanding what Forrest said.....and not paying attention to it. The "where the first clue is".....is the most important thing. Geeze...should I have put an exclamation mark there after the word "thing?"

Regarding your hurt feelings and trying to quash the group didactic to bend the forum's empathy to the kumbaya dream, why don't you either...join the fight....or go and jump in a lake. But before you do.....tell us oh wise nerd, what does Forrest's quote have to do with the answer to the question of "Who is Brown?" If you can't do that, then you're the pot calling the kettle "Brown" Geeze....if you can't stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen....or else..."get the hell out of there.".....Cheers.

trueyeti - unfortunately someone copied your toxic response or I would have been spared it. Where it comes from, I have no idea. You seem to have a penchant for personally attacking people whenever something comes up that, apparently and for whatever reason, upsets you. If it upsets you so much, maybe you should walk away for awhile; gain some perspective.

Forrest is tricky with his umbilical codes, lol-"Hear me all and listen good". He always does that "one" seemingly "odd error" a lot-hidden in plain sight. Looking forward to it. It's a good one for discussion; lots of possible ways to interpret that one, as we have seen. And so much to work with - that strange number, the idea that Merle Haggard would be on the radio singing a Janis Joplin song (the idea that you'd find that song on the radio currently even in its original form!), the misspelling of Merle and the non-capitalization of the g in Mcgee. Good luck with it. I'll be duly impressed if you find a way to explain all of those anomalies!

I'd be just as impressed if someone could make even a single connection!! If Forrest isn't still alive to disclose the answers, I hope he left a detailed journal. If not, that big picture of a solve may be lost forever! Funny, I have to wonder if the mural he painted was due to being ravin' mad? No worries, I'm right there on board! Fire in the hole, Forrest!

Some good ideas out there, but no easy ways to determine his real intent. Methinks the old man was a lot more clever than he let on.
