  • Why did Forrest play with the Omegas in OUAW?

I think this question is worth a separate thread. Indeed the first two books ended with a double omega. The first edition of OUAW had no omegas and the revised edition had one omega again. If the omegas are important in this chase/hunt, we should think about WHY Forrest played with the omegas in this way. What were the publication dates of both versions of OUAW? Any ideas about the coïncidence with the “treasure has been found” - message of June 2020?

Huh? How does this relate to my post?

Done. Not much for the old, "I've got a secret but I can't tell" game.

jan_v60 I think to understand this you need to go back to where Forrest first used the two Omegas. They first appeared in 'Seventeen Dollars a Square Inch', this was the book he gave to Jack Steuf the so called finder. It was a book about Eric Sloane. In that book is Eric's large mural which includes an incomplete rainbow, it has no beginning or end. It could well be that Forrest saw Eric as the beginning of the rainbow and himself at the end. If you add up all the times he used two Omegas it is 3 times = 6 + 1 in the revised edition of OUAW, so in total we have 7 Omegas, one for each color of the rainbow. Eric and Forrest are linked by the rainbow IMO.
It does rather tie in to the Alpha and Omega quote of "the first and the last, the beginning and the end"

If not why give the book to Jack who never knew what they meant.

starwheel I dont’t think he gave that book to Jack. I thought he only asked Jack if he had read that book.

Both editions of OUAW have a copyright indication referring to 2017. I think the first edition (without omegas) was available in October- November 2017. The revised edition was available at the beginning of 2018. So what happened during those months for adding one omega again after omission of the omegas in the first edition?

"When I visited Forrest’s house in June, he asked me if I had ever read his book on his friendship with the artist Eric Sloane, Seventeen Dollars a Square Inch. I hadn’t. He gave me a copy. It’s a classic Forrest Fenn production: lavish, large, very personal, a little eccentric, and totally indifferent to appealing to the book-buying public’s wallets. But of course it looks gorgeous on my coffee table."

jan_v60 I thought I explained that the possible reason was to make the total add up to 7. The other alternative reason may be that the first Omega [ the beginning of the Rainbow ] had been located leaving the final one yet to be discovered, the end of Forrest's Rainbow.

That is interesting. If the omegas were not necessary anymore in the colophon of the first edition of OUAW, that could mean the omegas (or their meaning) were hidden in the book itself. No omegas in the first edition, one omega in the revised edition. This would mean that the content of the second edition was changed, so that one omega in the colophon became necessary again. So, the question that I pose is: “what was left away in the second edition that was present in the first edition”. I do not have the first edition. Only people who have both editions could answer this question.
