There's a craton called Wyoming Craton. It's a large slab of the earth's crust, and is much larger than the State of Wyoming. The Wyoming Craton includes some of the State of Montana, the State of Idaho, and possibly other State(s) as well. This is easy to research. I hope I have helped explain this clearly to you. Please remember that Forrest didn't say that the chest was hidden in the State of Wyoming. And for that matter, he didn't make a flat statement saying that the chest was hidden in/on the Wyoming Craton. His statement was something like "we agreed to disclose that . . ."
So he was being extra-careful and vague all at once. He was an expert at this. Some serious searchers never believed that the TC was hidden -- for years -- in the State of Wyoming. Fenn wanted to divert attention away from the real hidey spot by convincing most of the searchers for it . . . that the hidey spot was in the State of Wyoming. It took some cleverness to mislead folks this way without actually telling any lies, but Forrest may have achieved this. I suggest you go back to the poem. The blogs are for entertainment . . . not for functional/actual help in solving the poem correctly. Good luck.

If Forrest and the finders entered into an NDA that any and all information released must be agreed upon would that not make that statement make sense?
Using it to make Forrest look like he was misleading is one more attempt to save a wrong solution. Forrest had no reason to lie about the state.
He knew the nine-mile plan as he was a part of it, only things changed but no one wants to give the man his due. So we have everyone in the know throwing the old man off the edge.
If not to hide the truth, to make their solve truth. WY is the state and 99% of the searchers were playing follow the leader in Yellowstone.
I have been told you know more about the ending than you say, is that true ? and if so why would you work so hard to throw people off what f really did?
The chest was found near the border of Col and WY that is the truth.
