    1. It was all a hoax?
    2. The chest was retrieved by family?
    3. He got impatient and nobody was cluing into the poem, so he decided to end it.
    4. Attorneys told him he had better end the chase because of past deaths, so he devised a way to end it?
    5. Someone was about to nab the chest and he suddenly had second thoughts. And since he knew the time and date the finder was going to arrive there, he had a family member get the chest first?
Since it took Forrest a week to produce a photo after his initial announcement, this is possibly the time the chest manipulation was done, so he could reveal its find. The manipulation appears rushed. I lean towards #5.
Yes, but who was it that was about to nab it before Fenn pulled the rug out from under them? That’s what I wanna know.

I don't think you can blame the sun here.
If it was already a transparent png, they did a good job except for this area.

This is the jar with his autobiography on the table by the chest. I destaurated the color of the entire photo a bit so I could see the waxed top better.
The wax is put on pretty thick.

To get a better idea of what a waxed jar looked like, I looked on the internet and this one appears to be a decent thickness as Fenn's jar.
Click image for larger version Name:	crystaline wax.JPG Views:	0 Size:	15.2 KB ID:	184480

With that said, can anyone see where the wax is on the one in the chest?
The waxed jar on the table has a uniform wax tint, except for the top area where the light hits it, But I can't see the wax on this jar?
Do you? You can see through the purple hue and I don't see an autobiography?
Click image for larger version Name:	wax-jar.jpg Views:	0 Size:	267.3 KB ID:	184481

          This is what Forrest wrote.
Although I am not ready to say the treasure is not in water, I certainly didn’t want moisture to enter the jar. So I melted a chunk of microcrystalline wax to the point that it started smoking, which meant it was at its thinnest viscosity. Then I dipped the jar in the molten wax deep enough to cover the lid and part of the jar, and held it there for several seconds. I wanted the wax to seal the threads on both the lid and the jar, but I didn’t want the heat to break the glass. After it cooled for a minute or so and the wax hardened, I repeated the process two times, increasing the wax thickness on the lid. The wax was petroleum based and won’t evaporate or deteriorate. When cold, it becomes brittle. That’s why I wanted the threads on the lid and jar clogged.

I just don't see the uniform colored wax? I see a rusted lid with horizontal lines then the jar.

That is not a bag over the jar because it doesn't have a seam, so it is camera hue? This is what you see when the hue is taken out.
I am literally speechless here as I don't know what to think?

Here is a link with the original photo that is really huge. You can view through the purplish hue of the jar yourself.

Obviously if there is no finder then Forrest has the chest. Why would someone spend an enormous amount of time creating a fake image when Forrest could just take the treasure up into the mountains, throw some dirt on it and quickly snap a picture. How would anyone be able to even question a picture like that. If there is an attempt at fraud then why waste tons of time and energy to create an image that could be detected when just snapping a quick photo of the chest on the ground would be incontestable!
One possible reason is for FF's own amusement. He doesn't want the entire search community convinced that the trove has been found and is no longer available to be retrieved by anyone with the correct solve of the poem.

Another possible reason is to distract serious searchers . . . hmm . . . better make that "semi-serious" searchers, as the serious ones are still focused on a solve, and not involved (academically or emotionally) with photography forensics . . . from COVID fears, or anything else that takes the searchers' attention away from this hunt. Otherwise it may seem a bit boring, especially to those with
short attention spans. Forrest, I believe, still wants an audience of a good size. But he'd rather have them at home and online, discussing photo alteration or bimbo eruptions or anything else even
mildly/distantly related to this hunt, rather than travelling and getting the virus.

In my opinion, there's plenty of convincing evidence of photo manipulation (not to mention searcher manipulation). I can't see much reason to dwell on this much longer, except for the above reason(s).
By the way, I suspect that a lot of the posting on this and other forums is done using a lot of different handles, but posted by FF. Not a biggie, though, regarding solving the poem and retrieving the goodies.
Fenn may find it more and more challenging to stick to the truth while fooling all of the searchers some of the time, and some of the searchers all of the time. He
is probably up for the challenge, and relishing it. It'll be a sad day for him when he learns that the real trove has been found right where the poem indicates.

My opinion. I will dwell on it until it is national news and the colleges with the highest degrees in photo forensics possible, puts it through their microscopes. When they declare it a fraud I will rest. The hunt is over and any solve, no matter who's it is or how they've gone about, is null and void until this issue has been resolved.

Ho hum . . . "treasure" is not the same word as "chest". More vaguery. I wonder if "vagueral irritation" is a real phrase.

In the back of the chest, on the left side, there's something that looks kinda cylindrical. It's not clean yellow gold. It looks to me more like brass, and about the size and shape of a mig welding nozzle.
Those nozzles are generally made of copper alloy, and look more reddish (orange-ish?) than yellowish. I don't know how many encounters FF, as a pilot, had with MIGs, but the thing doesn't look to me like jewelry or a piece of anything I would generally think of when I think of treasure. Please comment about this item if you want to. Thanks in advance.
