  • Can The Poem Be Translated Into A Different Language?

    Obviously it can be translated.

My question is, if it was translated into another language, would it still hold it's intended meaning?

Has anyone ever asked Forrest this?

I‘ve been working on a German version for almost a year now... you can find good rhymes, keep the rhythm, find similar word meanings, but... can you marry them to a map in the end? Or even... to the correct map? I don‘t want to think about homophones, anagrams or even acrostics...

Ergo: for a proper translation you‘ll need to know the complete and correct solution in all of its layers, directions and dimensions... the whole architectural construction! Otherwise you‘ll end up with funny spoonerism!

This is the Klingon version of the poem. Dont ask me to read it aloud, I dont speak klingon. I dont think any language other than English is going to get you closer to the treasure.

All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

          Do not.
Forrest made it very clear that he used meanings of words to construct the poem.
Thus, a free, or even colloquial, translation would bring meanings not applicable to the solution of the poem.
Unless the translation is based on the correct solution of the poem.

The poem is an english translation of an english set of directions. So changing it to another language would not do any good. Would still have to be changed back to english and use alternative word meanings.

It's good to have a lot of spare time on your hands. You should still wash them frequently.
