                under bed for 30 days, you have to think about ALL these things. If you found it in a specific place you would only have to think about one of those things. Also, wouldn't it be better to open it for the 1st time exclusively with cameras rolling?

                    It would be "better" in terms of monetary value to have such footage. I don't think that's the only variable in the calculation.

                    Cameras weren't rolling at most other landmark times of my life, so why this one?

                      Until the chest is found, Forrest owns the chest. Once it is found, it's up to the finder to decide if they want to become the owner.

                              There really is only one place the chest could be with the least amount of complications. BLM land in New Mexico or Colorado. I haven't checked the other states but in NM and CO, a person can recreationally pan for gold in rivers without a permit or need for a claim and keep the gold they find.
