  • Jar of olives.

Under another recent post a question of the importance of the olive jar came up.
On page 16 in TTOTC we have Forrest talking of the importance of his fathers sign. It then goes to John Charles and his olive jar. He would wave that thing in his face.
One could take the olives as a sign of peace being waved with actual intention to cause harm.
John Charles acted as if those olives were a real treat. Time of peace is also a treaty.
Just one way to look at this

You are so right - thanks for the correction. Are you related to Pussy Galore by chance?

No, but I'm honored that you ask.

One thing that has been overlooked is that F wrote that the olives were placed in the long and thin jar one at a time. The sign may be the stacked olives, or a cairn.

Perhaps this has to do with gardening?
Wonder what would happen if you opened that jar?

I have not forgotten about what you said here and have been thinking long about the olives or jar relating to gardening.

Sometimes one would place 'seeds in a hole' one at a time and cover them -OR- Unsealing the jar could expose the inside contents to outside environment such as moisture or sun (trying to relate this to gardening still but obviously failing).

I will continue to think on this as it has 'dug' into my brain like a seed, waiting sooo very patiently to 'sprout' an idea.
